I have said it before and I'll say it again....dogs react differently outside the home than they do inside. My son has a perfectly submissive Lab that is well trained but when he was outside in the yard with Gracie all he wanted to do was stomp her into the ground! Inside he was a perfect gentleman. Of course I got her away from him right away. He didn't hurt her but it taught me a lesson.

So glad you were able to shut down that dog's instincts with a good loud commanding sound. When one of my other dogs was attacked by a neighborhood dog I took my purse and kept smacking the other dog with it until the owner grabbed him. The owner was mad because I hit his monster dog! I don't think I had ever hit a dog before in my life but I would have beaten that dog until it let my baby go. These things happen so fast that you just react with whatever you've got. I was hollering as much as I could but that dog was snarling so loud i don't think it heard me.

I walk with my eyes going in all directions now as I'm sure you will, too.
