If you went to the vet, you received the right information. There is nothing negative about trying to make someone understand how serious things can be.
It all comes down to how you take it. You brought things down a little harder by trying to justify doing nothing AFTER people advised you it was an emergency (you said you could only take him to a vet if it were an emergency). So, no shame on anyone here for being frustrated and trying very hard to make you see what you needed to do.
Sounds like your pup's ear infection was very bad if he needed prednisone plus antibiotics. Things get out of control quickly with these pups. I strongly urge you to get insurance for this pup! These little ones can get the darndest things...and vetting is very pricey. One bout of pancreatitis can end up in the thousands if severe; and yorkies are prone to it along with a host of other things. Here is a link about insurance for pets:
