You have not lost them. Dowload a recovery program. There are lots of them. If you do not know how to do it, a technician will do it for you. Sometimes you cannot recover all of them, but at least the most. There are even You Tube videos on how to do it. DON'T THROW AWAY YOUR CARD!
Google has an excellent backup program. You just have to set your android phone and choose what you want to backup. I have mine set to daily backups, calendar, contacts, photos, etc. Check here:
