If your pup is not a small pup - and has been and is eating well - I think they can be taken to a new home at 8 weeks.

I really don't feel that the tiny little pups should ever be taken from their mother before they are 10 or 12 weeks old. And, certainly, if they aren't good little eaters, they should stay longer with their mothers.

I know it's tempting to find a little puppy, grab it, and take it home. But little Yorkies are especially hard to care for if they are very small and not able to eat well on their own. It just isn't worth trying to do. We have all read too many unfortunate stories from people who have tried to do this.

And - remember - there are lots of loveable little Yorkie pups in this world. If this one isn't ready to go with you - you can easily find another that is - and one that you'll love just as much.

Good luck! Carol Jean
