I didn't have health insurance for my previous yorkie and used savings to cover his high vet bills towards the end of his life. I have insurance now. I think it's beneficial and has already paid for itself .
Depending on the company and your vet you might be able to do something were they insurance company pays the vet directly. We have Pets Best.
