I love soapstone! Very pricey. We had a huge double soapstone sink in our laundry room in Chicago. Probably made in the 1940s before it became popular as designer kitchen countertops. As Michele pointed out, it does require some care.

I've looked into Fireslate too. It is lighter weight.
