I use Pyrex custard bowls for water and they keep the water cool. I fill them with refrigerated filtered water from the Brita.
Max has an aversion to plastic, except water bottles when we are out and about. Stainless steel, he doesn't like the reflection.
Really depends on the individual dog. If eating directly from plastic, make sure the plastic does not scratch. I believe the scratches can harbor bacteria.
