You are not supposed to allow the dog to eat before testing. We swabbed Bella first thing in the morning before we put out her food bowl, and the results were impeccable. Just be sure to follow all of the directions. Results come back in about three weeks and are available online. They will let you know if your dog is purebred, and if not, what other breeds are in its ancestry (the test can only go back three generations). If your dog is purebred, they will show a Principal Component Analysis that shows where your dog falls in with other dogs of the same breed. They will also show how inbred your dog is, and how that matches with other dogs of the same breed. Fabulous product at a great value.
For those who are skeptical of Wisdom Panel, it's the best test out there (nothing is 100% perfect), using state of the art technology, and it is improving as they add more dogs to their dataset. I'm a geneticist by profession, and no, Mars Inc. and Wisdom Panel did not pay me to say good things about them .

I was told by my vet that the blood test and the saliva test have different results. Your opinion on that?
I have never seen anyone get what I considered even CLOSE results when using the swab. I have only seen a few, but pretty ridiculous results imho.
