It's so sudden and if you don't recognize the symptoms it can be fatal within 24 hours without immediate, aggressive treatment to avoid fatalities. HGE is the leaking of blood and proteins into a dog's digestive tract. The symptoms include (possible vomiting) and bloody diarrhea. that looks like raspberry jam. (sorry to be so graphic) The exact cause isn't known. The dog quickly goes into shock, becomes dehydrated and can die without prompt treatment. About 10% of dogs who survive HGE have one or more re-occurences during their life, Most owners fail to realize how severe this is and don't get their dogs treatment in time. Again, I'm so very sorry about your Gina, Cherrie. I've seen so many dogs pass away with this horrible disease.
