Some people do use doggy seats in the front seat, but they disarm the passenger airbag. Other people have said that their cars are designed to not deploy the airbag unless there is a certain weight in the seat (a weight greater than the dog seat plus the dog).
My car does not have these capabilities, plus I have side impact airbags that come out of the sides of the front seats. I've had one of those deploy and it is scary! Therefore, I keep my doggy seat in the back.
