avoid words like "Sodium Cocoate", "Sodium Tallowate" - the "Sodium ______ate" ingredients that are organic oils that have reacted with an alkali, and are considered "soap"

Good question. A number of dog shampoos/conditioners do indicate they are biodegradable, like Espree, Biogroom, All Systems, and I believe Isle of Dogs who has a sulfate free line.
