I'm also trying to grow out the nose hair so I basically have not trimmed anything at all since I got her. Is this the proper way to grow out the long coat or do I need to trim certain areas like the bottom? She doesn't really get poop stuck in her bottom but I heard that area is suppose to be shaved clean?

I have heard so many scary stories about people's dogs getting injured at the groomers or falling off the table that I really don't feel like trusting anyone.. unless there are some show dog groomers around my area which I'm not sure of how to find them? But since I'm in new york I'm assuming there has to be a show dog groomer SOMEWHERE.. just no idea where lol. Other than that, if I need to trim certain areas while her coat grows I want to try by myself. I'm such an overprotective mommy.. I know, I know.. lol.
Genetics will dictate how well and how long that coat will grow. I had three in long coats and just cut them all down. It is a lot of work to keep up with to keep them long and I think they are happier shorter. But, if you want to encourage the coat to grow, keep it clean and brushed and trim regularly. I'm sure you have the pick of the litter in NY for groomers, and good ones at that! But, you can teach yourself to groom, I did it, and they look good enough.
