Was she recently given the Kennel Cough vaccine? If so, then that's where she got kennel cough. Btw, it's not a core vaccine and you don't have to get it - unless you're required to by your groomer or something.
The danger in puppies is that it can easily and rapidly progress to pneumonia, whereas an adult can fight it off more easily. This is why a puppy should be seen by a vet.
