Thank you all SO MUCH for your prayers, concern, and advice!

The breeder has contacted me every few hours to check on Lyla. She has been a great emotional support to me. As to leaving her dog mommy too early I agree, but.....here is the story: the breeder was contacted by an old lady who sold her a yorkie a few years ago. She cried and said her boy got her girl pregnant and she is just too old and can't "do" puppies anymore and asked if she would buy her.

My breeder bought her, but she was extremely depressed and when the puppies were born she wouldn't take care of them. My breeder had to sit with her so the puppies could nurse. Shortly thereafter the mama dog barely ate and was losing weight and looked horrible. The puppies were eating dry food well, the she took the mama back to the old lady. The mama jumped into her arms and the old lady was so grateful. They were so bonded, and needed each other. She told my breeder that she couldn't afford to buy her back, but my breeder said not to worry she is just happy they are together again and in 4 months she will return to take the mama and get her spayed.

So my little baby wouldn't have had her dog mama regardless.....

Now to Lyla, no I did not trust the vet because I am a critical care nurse for tiny, fragile preemies and what he was telling me didn't make sense. She had her first set of shots (I know that doesn't completely protect them), the other puppies got over their diarrhea and were fine, she hasn't been outdoors at all except at the breeders with the other puppies, and if she had Parvo she would have passed days ago. I just didn't believe the Parvo bit at all.

She was drinking and urinating well, and I truly felt as long as she kept that up she didn't need IV fluids and i could care for her better at home with less stress to her.

I believe I was right.

I kept her warm and gave her the liquid diet with a syringe when I got home and she threw it up a half hour later so as we would do for a human preemie I gave her tummy a rest for several hours. She slept and slept, waking to pee and I would take her to her water dish and she would drink then go back to sleep.

Late in the evening I gave her another dose of her meds and she went to her food dish, sniffing around. I poured some liquid diet in her bowl and she lapped it right up. She had trouble settling down for bed because she slept all day and wanted to play! She continued to drink water, urinate, drink her food through the night. There has been no more vomiting or diarrhea! So I am only giving her the antibiotics now and just keeping her warm, fed, and hydrated. Which is easier said than done when all she wants to do is chase the boxer around the house and play!

She woke me up this morning with a dozen tiny puppy kisses on my face, bright eyes, wagging tail, and full of energy. I think my nursing instincts served me well this time, I honestly don't think she would have done as well at the vets without the individual attention and all the extra stress of being there. I will say I would have RUSHED her back to the vet had she stopped drinking water well.

We still don't know what made her sick, there are many "Parvo-like" viruses out there and who knows what else. I am just beyond grateful that my baby is doing so well.I'm continuing her "intensive care" at home, but I think she is out of danger now. I would like to start her back on solid foods this afternoon. What do you all think about Gerber baby chicken? Bland enough?

THANK YOU ALL again so much, I am thankful to have found this community of kind souls who understands how totally in love I am with my new baby, and cares enough to take time to try to help. You are all wonderful! {{{{{{{{}}}}}}}}
