For treats I give them little pieces of fruit, they love bananas, apples, pears, melons. I also give them vitamin and mineral supplements and fish oil from this holistic vet Dr. Peter Dobias - holistic veterinarian. Feeding your babies *real food* is the best thing you can do for them!

when I got home I took the dog out of the car to walk him, he pooped, it was watery, had mucus and blood in it, colitis, the next day I called the vet told her, took him in to vet, vet gave meds.... when I adopted this dog the prev. owner had a shopping bag with all his belongings and a folder with his medical history. He is also micro chipped and had name, address & phone # of prev. owner, The vet told me the prev. owner would like to have updates and pics of the dog, she asked would I do that, I said of course. so they dog was given meds for colitis, I have had dogs with colitis, it clears up within 2 weeks on meds, 3 weeks later there was no improvement, so back to the vet, diff, meds were given, I knew this dog had to have this colitis for a while, so I called the prev. owner, told her when she surrendered this dog it had colitis, she told me they got hit with hurricane Sandy, house got flooded had to evacuate, had to put dog in a shelter for 16 days, when they got they dog out he had this diarrhea. They took the dog to vet, was given meds, but dog still had diarrhea, she said the vet told her to NOT WORRY ABOUT THE DIARRHEA!!!!!!!! Hurricane Sandy was Oct.2012 I adopted him Nov. 2013...13 months this dog has colitis. I have the BEST vet in my area, I have been with her since 1984, she kept my last dog alive for years when she came down with cushings disease, I trust her 1000%, I knew the food I was feed this dog was not working with my vets meds, so I went on line to see what he should be eating (I was feeding him rice with low fat boiled chop meat and a side dish of vet canned dog food, vet approved of this) I cannot loose this dog, it will kill me if I do, I will do what ever I have to do to cure him, I found a website that talked about raw meat and pureed veggies, with sublaments. And it made sense what I read, So I started to add carrots, celery. both raw and a cooked potato, all pureed and mixed 2 tbsp. in with the rice & chop meat. 2 weeks ago I told this to the vet, still no improvement, his poop has not been watery, this has changed into soft like pudding no mucus, but always bllod in the poop. BUT, I will not stop my vets meds, and put him on the raw meat with veggies and sublaments, . I took him to vet last this week, she put him on a stick diet of just Hills prescription diet Z/D dry dog food, meds that are in capsule form to be given with same as above but canned dog food, I wrap the pills in the canned dog food and feed that way. He goes back in 2 weeks for his follow up. If I can get him cured, I want to put him on raw meat with veggies and sublaments, but I will get my vets approval before doing this. I am sorry for this NOVAL lol, some times a person has to start at A to get to Z. I told you all this because I agree with the raw meat & veggies, and hope one day I can feed this to my new lil boy. God bless you if you read this novel lol.
