Have you thought of a natural sweetener, Stevia? I have been using it for the last couple of years now and really like it. As sugar has always been my downfall, I use it alone, or with a bit of brown sugar in my coffee/tea. I find the flavor comparable to vanilla It comes in powder, crystal or liquid form. I wonder if that will work better for you, as you are not sure about the sweetener in this recipe? Having said that, I have yet to use it in a recipe, but don't see why it wouldn't work. Anyone else ever use it in their baking? I get it at our local London Drugs store and also have found it at the grocery store. It is usually in with the other sugars.
