Hi All,

I had an appointment to get Bijou spayed on Jan 6th after the holidays (at about 6 months 3 weeks) and she unfortunately went into heat (or at least started bleeding) about 3 days before that. I'm from the states but living in Switzerland for two years and dealing with this over here with VERY elementary French has been amusing. So far, I haven't found anyone with diaper things in stock so for now we've just confined her to a few rooms and covered things.

If anyone has any advice on getting through the first heat though I would appreciate it. In addition to drops of blood covering everything, I've definitely noticed a behavior change - I think I've maybe heard her bark like three times ever until this past week, but now she seems to be barking at a ton of little things, especially other dogs. She also, understandably so I guess, doesn't fully seem like herself. I've read a decent amount online but always good to hear from people who have gone through it.

Also - how soon after the heat cycle is over can I re-schedule the spay? The vet said at least a month but again dealing with language translation issues so hoping for second opinions if anyone else out there waited until after first heat or had something happen like this.
