Thank you, horsnaround and Kentuckyyorkie. I'm arranging to be up extra early in the morning and free to observe how Piper's doing well before the appointment time. How she is behaving then and what her temp at the vet is will help me decide if this surgery should be postponed. I'm definitely going to trust my instincts, I think--I spend so much time with her, I do know her better than anyone else. And she's trusting me to make the right call. that I do!
