No worries!! Finnigan had ear mites. Our old vet missed his ear mites his first checkup, when we saw a new vet she immediately noticed the scratching., but by that time it was a severe infestation. No damage to the ear, just tons of build up and ear wax looking. The first ointment he received was very effective but made him lose hair on the outside of his ear ( because of the steroid). We then got a liquid medicine, that also helped and finished the job. We were worried because Finnigan gave us such a hard time when we put the medicine in his ear that damage would be caused however they said to get as far as you can into the ear and then massage it in for atleast 10 seconds, that helps a ton. It is VERY hard to damage the inside of the ear and ear canal since it is so far inside the ear, do not be worried. Just do the best you can with the medicine. It is messy but it doesn't take that long to rid them! |
