When Gracie was a pup she was always looking for something to chew. She would steal things off of end tables, out of closets, out of purses, and the list goes on and on. I was terrified that she was going to choke to death on some odd object that she got her teeth into. We had to puppy proof everything but she would still manage to find something to chew. I knew not to give her rawhide but didn't know what I should give her.
Finally I read on this forum about bully sticks, many here use them, and I went to the store and got her some. Sadly, the first couple of brands I purchased were too soft and she had some bouts of diarrhea with them because she was able to ingest too much. I finally found the Best Bully brand and she loved them. It solved our chewing issues. When I first give her one she chewed for about an hour. I finally took it away from her. As she satisfied her urge to chew she needed to do it less. They are great for a youngster that needs to chew. They are digestible unlike rawhide that can cause blockages and also be a choking hazard. Gracie's raids around our home finally stopped.
We buy them in lots of 5 from Best Bully on Ebay. The shipping is less there. Gracie is 3 years old now and we have never had an issues with them. Gracie still needs to chew now and then so I keep them on hand for when she gets the urge. |
