Such a sad story. It is perfectly normal to be grieving for your little girl. It certainly was a terrible shock and loss for you. If you are not ready for a new dog in the house then let the family know. There will always be more Yorkies out there.

I don't really understand your vets explanation. Obviously she died of some physical event but I would not call that normal. She was obviously ill since she was panting and giving warning signs. I can't imagine the stress you are under because you were not there with her and don't know what happened. All you can do is remember the good years you had with her and take comfort in the fact that you gave her a good life. There is nothing else you can do. Grieve and when your mind tries to move to her last days don't go there. Think back to her good days. Where ever these little ones go when they move on she is there with happy thoughts about you and her life with you so don't blame yourself or let guilt beat you up.
