I am so sorry for your loss. Our pups are like our children, and it is devastating to lose one.
I lost my mini Schnauzer at the age of 8 in the same mysterious manner. She was panting in the middle of the night, but we all went back to sleep. In the morning I found her dead on the floor. So sad.
I too immediately started looking for another pup, and I was able to get my first Yorkie Tiki about a month later.
