Blazer used to get it a lot more when I had his hair longer and definitely when I had him in a top knot. I do think that it is because he is a small dog and, as someone pointed out in a thread similar to this one, a lot of people call a new dog by the same gender as the majority dogs they have or know. Such as, I have males and most dogs I know are male so I tend to think of stranger dogs as male first. Make sense?
