When Kaji came home he was a year old and his breeder allowed him to mark indoors with a belly band on. Her furniture was safe, but Kaji was gettin use to marking inside. First thing I did was have him fixed. In the meantime, I would literally follow him around our condo when I would let him explore. Every time he squatted, or lifted his leg to mark, I would correct him. In my case I found a double clap, and a firm "No" (not yelling) was enough to get his attention. He also received lots of praise when he would pee/mark outside. I also limited his free roam time until I could trust him not to mark inside. This really worked for us. Kaji earned his free roam 2-3 months after coming home. 4 years later, we have had no issues. The only potty accidents now are my fault. I get so caught up doing chores, that I accidentally miss his "let me out" signal.
