I instructed my family right away, NO Barking! When they are little and their bark is so cute, you are tempted to encourage barking. Resist the temptation and you will be pleased with a quiet little dog. Our dogs bark when the door bell rings, trash trucks, dogs barking on TV. But we say 'ssshhhtt' and they will stop. Sometimes I say 'ok enough'. Always, always discourage it. I let them bark at each other playing for a little, but it became such a distraction. Now they rough house, sometimes they growl a little, but seldom bark. My friends always comment how quiet they are, it makes me very proud.
