Max cried in the car his first year. A booster seat solved his problem, but I know it isn't always so easy for all pups.
Bring a favorite blankie, toy, and doggy bed for staying in hotels or other people's homes. The car booster seat can also double as a bed. Having familiar items/scents can help.
The plugin scent thingy, I never remember the name, has a calming effect and has helped some pups with anxiety.
Clothing or Thundershirts can also give a sense of security.
