I've only the word of the OP regarding a seemingly Reputable breeder. I've seen nothing other than her word, though I didn't say it was untrue so not sure what your alluding to?

The only facts that I can ascertain are that the OP met the breeder, chose a seemingly healthy pup, at some point the pup became ill, the OP decided to keep the pup and a breakdown in communication ensued between the parties. The contract was specific as to what was to be done, it wasn't done in this situation, OP admits this here and thus far there is no resolve.

My opinion, (set aside my own sincere sympathy for OP, OP's husband and this poor sick pup), is that this was a very sad and unfortunate occurrence that regardless of what the parties agree or disagree on there is still a sick pup. I don't believe that OP would have chosen a sick pup had the pup presented ill upon the selection? Nor do I believe that this "reputable" breeder would have sold the OP a sick pup, intentionally.

I do think that at this point the breeder needs to live up to her part in the contract. Obviously the pup is in good hands and the OP is taking good care of the pup that she has chosen to keep just as I did with Mini.

In the end all that matters is this pup gets well. I wish OP(s) the best and I sincerely hope this pup gets well soon.

Trashing? not at all, just my opinions.

OP please keep us posted on the outcome involving the breeder, I am anxious to see what she eventually decides to do. I also hope that you get well soon.
I don't see where you have trashed my wife either. Everyone has a right to post their opinions. So, I will try to give you some background. And I promise you, that was never my wife's intent when she wrote the review. She sincerely wanted to spare anyone going through what we are going through.

Sheila spoke with the breeder at great length, on the morning of August
26th. I sat with her, and I could hear both sides of the conversation.

Sheila told her about losing her little Kia so suddenly, and how she had been in such deep grief, that she didn't leave her bedroom for 3 months. (She didn't leave the house for 6 months, except to go to the doctor or hospital for tests.) She told her how her MS had progressed over the stress of losing Kia. (It also progressed when we lost Sydney, but with Kia it was even harder, because her death was sudden, and unneccesary. She died in Sheila's hands.)

She told the breeder that gustos mom looked so much like our Sydney, whom we lost exactly two years to the date, that we lost Kia. The picture of gustos mom was the reason Sheila agreed to go look at the puppies.

The breeder was extremely sympathetic and promised Sheila that her puppy would have a thorough Vet exam. At the time, they were talking about two tiny females, in Maxwells litter.

We made two trips to see the puppies. the 1st one was when they were 12 weeks old. They were in an x-pen in the office of the breeders boarding kennel and huddled together in a corner. The breeder explained that they had never been in the office before, but she had remodeling going on in her house.

I helped Sheila step over the x-pen, and she tried to coax the puppies to her. She didn't want to frighten them further. Finally, at one point, she picked up the tiny male, and he cuddled against her chest. His eyes were half open, so we just figured they were very sleepy.

OK-fast forward. We made the 2nd trip down to get Maxwell on 9/25, we spent the night in a hotel and went to the breeders the next day. The tiny female decided she wanted to play. And Sheila had a hard time choosing between her and Maxwell. I commented that I liked Maxwell's short muzzle.

When we got home, Sheila e-mailed the breeder and said we couldn't get a Vet appt. until Tuesday, Oct 1st. Breeder said that was fine.

The next day, 9/27, we saw green pus in Maxwell's left eye. We kept it clean with Collyrium.

After his 1st Vet appt. on Oct. 1st, Sheila e-mailed the breeder and told her that he had yeast infections in both ears, and a bacterial infection in his left eye, and the Vet had done a Schirmer tear test, and the score was very low. And she was consulting with an Ophthalmologist.

Breeder replied that yeast infections are common due to all the hair. (Well, none of our girls ever had them.)

She said she was so sorry, she didn't know anything was wrong with his eye.

Next day, I took a stool sample to the Vet and he was diagnosed with Giardia. Sheila e-mailed the breeder and told her, and she said she had no idea, and would notify the other puppy owners.

I took Maxwell back to the Vet on Oct. 8th-Vet did the 2nd Schirmer tear test, score was still very low.

She had consulted with the Ophthalmologist and she said Yorkies are the poster child for Lacrimal Gland Aplasia but she had never seen it in a puppy this young.

Sheila e-mailed the breeder immediately.

We treated the bacterial infection and the yeast infections, and the Giardia. Once the bacterial infection was gone, the Vet had us treat his left eye with Tacrolimus drops.

She explained to Sheila yesterday, what prompted her to do the 1st Schirmer tear test-she said Maxwell's left eye was very dry. It was Sheila's
1st time attending a Vet visit but she wanted to ask very specific questions.

Of course, the visit landed her in bed for the rest of the day and evening, but she felt she needed to hear things, first hand.

The breeder did offer to take Maxwell back, and give us the tiny female, but we were hesitant to take another puppy. And Sheila really wanted to believe that the breeder didn't know about Maxwell's eye. (His left eye is smaller than his right.)

And we were already spending a great deal of money treating Maxwell.

I realize, that all you have is Sheila's and my word in regards to Maxwell's health issues, but, we have absolutely no reason to make these things up.

A friend of the breeders has posted that we have given the breeder no proof, but with the number of e-mails they exchanged, and I exchanged with the breeder, she never asked her for medical records, until today.

The only resolution the breeder has offered is another puppy.

Were we ignorant in trusting the breeders word, and signing the contract?
In retrospect, absolutely!

Speaking of my wife, I need to fix her some dry toast.
