Do keep in mind more factors come into play than just weight. My first yorkie Luma is a little under 8 lbs. which us smaller than what you said you're looking for, but still, I would definitely say she is hardy, sturdy, etc. Their physique makes up a lot of that. Again that is something a good breeder will have bred into her program...sturdy dogs, not fragile, thin boned dogs. So at 8 lbs. Luma is just as capable as a 10-15 lb yorkie. She is very athletic.

At the same time though, looking.for parents around the size you'd want them to be full grown isn't foolproof. Both of my girls come from parents around 7 lbs. Luma is bigger than them, and Rosie (who wasn't even the runt of the litter) is much smaller than them.

The best bet is probably to pick a bigger puppy out of a litter from parents 7-8 lbs or to just adopt a matured dog.
