Welcome to YT!!!! I am a newish member here, and you will find that everyone is just sooo passionate about YT'ers

As with children, these furbaby's may learn in different ways and there are lots of members who will post the way they taught theirs. The most important thing I find, as with children, is to be consistent, patient and rewarding good behaviour.
As for potty training, I got lucky and my Bailey was already housebroken. Having said that, he is not w/out accidents. Because of this, I always leave some newspaper on an leak free pad just in case he has to go while I'm not here.
The first night I brought Bailey home, he cried a bit, but with reassurances and petting/kissing he was fine.
I have, until recently, had him sleep in a bed I made from a big plastic container with a cutout for the door, leaving a bit on each side where I wrote "Fort" on one side and "Yorkie" on the other. HAHA Inside is a bed with a blanket around it, easier to remove for washing if necessary. I keep the lid on for warmth and coziness when the weather is cool. His bed is set inside a pen so that I knew he wasn't getting into anything while I was asleep.
I figured that getting him used to sleeping in his own bed would make it easier if he ever had to sleep at someone else's home.
Lately though, I have had him sleeping in/on my bed, depending on how warm/cool he is.

He is now almost 2 at 7.5 lbs. and every day is Christmas around here! I'm sure that most will attest to that.
All the best with your sweetie and I hope that the time goes quickly until you can call your Yorkie your own!!!! Cheers from Canada
