You could always find a way to add some fabric to cover the elastic that is showing. Maybe make some sort of sleeve/tube to thread the elastic through, than sew it together and tuck the seem inside the tube so it doesn't show.
When I made mine I used the pre knotted elastic bands that you can buy by the bolt in the ribbon section at Joann's. Its not as inexpensive as the regular elastic but it turns out very pretty. They come in a verity of colors. Ya just poke the tulle through the holes and tie them the same way you did the other.
