They some how missed one of Gracie's dew claws when she was a baby. I had it removed when she was spayed. No problem.

Yes, they can grow around and into the pad but the main problem is when they get it caught on something like carpeting or some sort of cloth. They can't just pull it out like they would a regular nail so injuries tend to happen. It can also cause problems when they run around outside. They can catch on something and get cut which can easily get infected.

It is an easy procedure to have it removed. If you are planning on having him neutered that would be the time to have it done.
