I would talk to the previous owner and ask what his favorite foods were. Do you cook his food or is he used to eating raw? That can make a world of difference to dogs. They are really scent oriented so you want to give him something that smells really good.

Hopefully once he gets over the fact that he has a new home and new people he will start getting more interested in food. You might want to try getting some all natural treats for him to kind of get his appetite stimulated. Don't feed him a lot of it just a couple before meal time to get the belly working and his nose interested.

Feeding human food is not always bad. You just want to make sure you don't use the seasonings that most people would use and make sure he gets good nourishing food...not junk. You can try throwing some nutritious veggies and meat in a blender or food processor, add some good natural vitamins and lightly cook or serve raw depending on what he is used to.

Some people have had success hand feeding dogs that refuse to eat. I would give it a try if your really concerned about him.
