I agree, stop the buffet. Pick one type of food, measure it out and leave it. He is old enough where you don't have to stress about hypoglycemia. He will eat when he gets hungry. And as advised early give a little nutri cal at bed time if didn't eat for the day. They only need to eat about a tablespoon of kibble a day to avoid hypoglycemia at this age.
