I've had big dogs with dew claws hurt them but my little ones never had any except Tibbe. He's got a vestigial dew on his right foreleg that I didn't even know about until I had had him over a year. He was 9 mos. old and had long hair when I got him and can't say if it was there all along or what. Don't know if it was just always that tiny little thing and missed when the others were removed or if it partly regrew. I'll leave it rather than have an amputation done (have heard there is a lot of post-op pain) but we do have to trim it from time to time. Wish he didn't have it but nothing I can do now. Probably your little one will do okay with his. Lisaly's Katie has her dewclaws and is very active so it's not a given they will get them hurt and be sure to trim the nail.
