Barney had all of his removed when he was neutered at around 5 months. It was a bit traumatic. But he kept getting them hung in our blankets and I was afraid one would rip off. My groomer and vet both encouraged me to have them removed. Now that it's over, I'm so glad they're off. He likes to dig and is into everything. Sooner or later, one of his would probably have been torn.
