"At this time, there is not a specific cause for the severe illness found in dogs in the Ann Arbor area. Several cases have been reported in California and Ohio. A relatively new virus, canine circovirus may be involved in these cases, but it has not been proven to be the cause. It could be caused by co-infection with this virus along with other pathogens that causes GI infection. It is NOT transmitted from humans or TO humans. The Michigan Department of Agriculture and the Diagnostic Center for Population and Animal Health at Michigan State University are currently working to identify what the cause of this illness is. If your dog should develop signs of vomiting, diarrhea (possibly bloody), passing fresh blood from the rectum, weight loss and listlessness, seek veterinary care as soon as possible. Limit your dog's contact with places that other dogs go- that will minimize your dog's risk of exposure to disease. There is no need to be unusually alarmed at this time." Dr. Childs

Thank you for sharing the info!! A dog I just helped adopt now lives in Ann Arbor and he is going to doggie daycare. I just passed the info along to my friend. I will also be limiting my boys activities for the moment. No trips to petsmart or petco for them.

I seriously don't even know if I could tell if they were sick. My dogs have so many GI issues. A day of normal poop and good eating is a day to celebrate because it's such a rare occasion.
