Wallee is trained to go outdoors and pad trained. I would love to get rid of the pads altogether but as so many said, it is great to have them first thing in the morning when the weather is bad. I tried getting rid of them by moving them to the door when he was around a year old but he just kept going back to the spot where they used to be and using the carpet. Even with repeated treatment of enzymes, he wouldn't give up that spot. He will ask to go out most of the time, however I find that when he gets a drink, he immediately runs to the pad and pees or when he is playing in the house, he will use it. He always asks to go outside to poo which is great. I had a lady here with a chi puppy who said her dog is completely outdoor trained. Her breeder told her that if she started using pads she would always be a slave to pee pads. I have never taken Wallee to anyone else's house to see how he would behave I guess mostly cause I worry that he is used to having the pads available and might pee in someone's house. I do notice that if we go out, he doesn't seem to use them though. He just sleeps and when we come in the door he runs to the back door for me to let him out. hmmm...so I have very mixed emotions about his use of the pads. They are great in bad weather or when it is still so dark out in the mornings ( we often have skunks visiting our yard) but the rest of the time, it would be nice if he just went outside. |
