Seasonal allergies are the worst . . two of my four pups deal with them. Each to a different severity but all really horrible reactions. Chewing none stop, pulling the hair out on their back legs and rear ends. But they don't stop there, they keep chewing to the point of causing red irritated patches which turn into an infection and than we end up at the vets for a round of antibiotics. Which never helps with the allergies only the infections. I hate it and I hate seeing my babies suffering from it. They are just miserable during this time of year.
Since Brandi was diagnosed with AID Auto Immune Deficiency and has been on steroids her allergies have not even kicked in this years. Which was such a blessing because it got so bad in years past and she really does not need to deal with any more in her life right now.
Since Brandi has been on them I have researched some of the effects that using steroids can have with long term use and it is a very scary thing to imagine. I have major concerns about her being on them. but she has no choice in the matter due to her illness. Quincy is my other pup who suffers from fall allergies and I just could not sit back and watch him suffering any more. He has been so miserable and causing so much harm to himself for so many years now. But when I saw the that Brandi's allergies were being controlled and seeing the difference the steroids made I ask if they would be safe for Quincy and was assured that they would be. So he too is now on them. He has been on
a much lower dose of the steroids due to his age for just under a week now and thank goodness his allergies are now under control as well. But not before he had a chance to chew his legs up and totally tear the hair off of his hind legs and was running around the house looking like a chicken.
Quincy is 11yrs old and I worry about him being on them. Thankfully it is for a short period of time just to get us through until winter hits. Brandi on the other hand has no choice. At this point it is the only thing that is keeping her from getting any sort of infection and keeping her AID under control.
Does anyone know of any other kind of allergy meds that would be just as effective with less harmful effects ?
Ruby has the most mild case of fleas. I check her 2-3 times a day. She/all of them are on flea meds and I have sprayed her entire body with a flea repellent. I have given her a flea bath and during grooming and our daily flea checks I have only found #1 live flea on her and 2 dead ones.
So why is she still chewing and scratching ?
I wish I know . . .

Apparently the meds are not working.
This is what we use:
* Advantage topical
* Hartz flea spray
What flea meds are your babies on and Do they work 100% of the time / not one flea ?
