I looks more like a reaction to fleas. Mine rarely get an infestation of fleas but we do get a few here and there but that looks like what my babies do to themselves when they have fleas. They tend to do a lot of digging and biting that opens the skin and than scabs. They also cause red irritation and swelling. It only takes one of them little burgers to just drive them nuts.
