This would be a hard decision! Like you, I researched the breeds before making the choice, and for me it was between Yorkie and Havanese, also. The thing that decided it for me was--besides the circumstances surrounding our final decision--looking at pictures on the internet of the Havanese adult dog. Some were just plain ugly to me! (I know that sounds shallow and vain!) I have always thought that Yorkies were adorable, and I know that their look depends a lot on how you groom them, so I decided that was something in my control. Our Mia (funny, same name!) is still a puppy, at 18 weeks old. We LOVE her, and laugh at her funny puppy ways, but to be honest---I'm ready for the puppy stage to be over! It is truly like having a newborn in the house again. (And I'm not talking about getting up in the morning, because we use puppy pads.) There is a lot of work involved, plus, with a puppy you never know what you are getting. If I didn't have Mia, but had the experience of the puppy stage, I would definitely opt for the older dog if you have a connection with her. Meet her and see her temperament, and find out if she is a cuddly lap dog--if that is what you are looking for. Yorkies are energetic and feisty, but very smart and loving. I think they are very similar to Havanese, so I think your decision is going to be more about whether you want a puppy, or whether you want to see the "finished" and more settled product. Good luck on your decision! I think either way it is a win!
