He used to be that way but since he started on the hepatic, he's eaten so regularly and on schedule, this scared me that he'd taken a step back. I'm always so watchful of that taking place w/him and him going into some sort of liver-damage dive before I know it.

Maybe that was it - it's so unusual for him this last 4 months that this threw me a curve that he was taking another bad turn. He did just eat a few more pieces of kibble! Maybe this was nothing big - just a hiccup. I live on such a razor's edge that he's going to have something dire happen now that we're pretty sure he has liver disease that it's not very pleasant. Here's hoping I can begin to hope that things like this are just a dog being a dog!
