I also ordered a dna test off amazon for mixed breed dogs for my shihtzu/pom mix and his family tree confirmed he was 50/50 shihtzu/pomeranian. It was really helpful and definately helped me learn more about him and link his behaviors to his breeds.

I have the same setup for Gizmo. With his xpen, he's got his bedroom at one end, a good sized amount of space in the middle with one side his kitchen and the other wall as his playroom (that's of course when he decides to move hs toys out of the bedroom lol) and at the other end he has his potty pad holder with pad aka his bathroom :-) . There are no dividers, he has just established the areas himself by telling me where he wants things lol. Instead of putting it in the octagon shape, I actually arranged the panels in a rectangle because he just loves to run super fast and with it longer, it gives him the opportunity to run if its in the middle of the night or something.

We try to keep him out quite often and also have a potty pad holder outside with toys, food and all :-) he's just a spoiled little boy right now, but he's also super smart, so we don't feel bad hahaha. We are adjusting his time out longer and longer every day, so we can eventually just leave the door open all the time and he will still go potty there hopefully. He's had 3 accidents in 3 weeks, so I think he's doing well so far for only 11 wks old :-)
