Barney had his dew claws when we brought him home at 11 weeks. I had them removed when he was 5 months old at the same time he was neutered. It was painful for him and it took a few weeks for him to completely heal. On a positive note, he didn't even notice that he was minus two balls because he was focused on his bandaged feet. Now, that it's over I am so glad we went ahead and did it. I just knew he was going to tear one off as they would get hung up rather easily. I would recommend doing this at a time when you are going to be home for vacation so that you can give your pup constant attention. The bandages have to be removed after a few days and the feet have to be kept completely dry. This is not easy when they go out to pee in the mornings.
