Well haven't had any recent experience, but mine had some baby teeth removed and was on soft food for a while because her gums were somewhat tended. She did go back on the regular kibbles with no problems.
I would go with whatever my vet recommended.
Maybe other here have had more recent experience with this and can post on that! Hope everything goes well - they do seem to heal quickly !
