You know as well as I do that leg PROBABLY needs an ORIF....by a ortho specialist!!!!....she has put a SPLINT on it.....that is not even a cast!!! You KNOW that leg didnt go from being severe enough to possibly need amputation, to only needing a splint!!! And you are absolutely correct....this leg will end up deformed, at the very least.....hopefully this "well informed nurse" will seek the proper treatment needed to this pup and not just the cheapest way out.....and hopefully, if she thinks her vet misdiagnosed the severity of the break, going from possible amputation to a simple splint, and she thinks he recommended surgery just to get the money, she needs to change vets!
