We have hardwood in the foyer, ugly linoleum in the kitchen/breakfast area, and carpet everywhere else.
My guys don't go on the stairs, I carry them. We have an open landing thing that we call "the hole", a view to the first floor foyer. I know if the doorbell rang, the boys would fall down the hole or tumble down the stairs racing to the door.
