I think if not vaccinating is goung to keep you up at night worrying,then maybe you shoud vaccinate.

If I lived in anendemc area my decision would ge gased on actualrisk f death and on the recommendations of the closest veterinary school.

Only 5% of dogs that have been exposed to Lyme get sick. Almost all recover with a round of antibiotics (no, a round of antibitics is not particularlyhard on them). A few get an immune edited renal disease. This has more to do with labs and retrievers. And besides, there is concern that the vaccine itself can cause this.

There is question about whether the vaccine does any good if the dog had been exposed previously. Lyme vaccines for humans are not common because of concerns over serious side effect concerns.

The standard of care is tick prevention including thoroughly checking the dog's body daily.
