We have had the same groomer forclose to 20 years and would never give her up. We take all four Yorkies in at the same time and pick them up a few hours later. Lisa brings each one out separately and tells us about any problems she had or changes she made. She reports on their behavior etc then helps us put him or her into his our her crate. After all are tucked away in the car we pay her.
I would NEVER put up with an arrogant groomer or human stylist for that matter and I certainly wouldn't pay them before seeing my dog.
Don't be shy with the next groomer. Even if they do not offer to show you around you should insist on a tour and inspect the place. Your little one's life is in that groomer's hands. You need to be able to trust them completely and know that your pet is safe while you are gone.
As far as the release is concerned----WHAT? ----Never. She would have to sign an agreement that she would pay for any injuries that may occur while the dog is in her charge.
By the way, long hair, short hair, scruffy hair---your little one is adorable!
