Galen- Perfect name! Galen of Pergamon - Roman surgeon, physician and philosopher. The name may have brought you some good luck!
It sounds like Galen had a successful surgery and will be feeling much better soon. Your vet made a good choice to do the surgical procedures requiring anesthesia together to save you the expense and Galen the trauma. I would ask the vet where the retained testicle was located. My guess it was in the inguinal canal/groin area since he was released today. The testicle does not drop because the gubernaculum does not develop properly preventing the testicle to drop in the scrotum. It will instead end up in the groin area or the abdomen which is a much more involved surgery. This is good to know for Galen's health history.
I am sure you are glad to have him home. He will be back to normal self in a week or sore. I am sure he is glad to have the deciduous teeth extracted - 17 is a lot but not unusual for these little breeds.
FYI - AKC has done several studies on the genetics of Cryptorchidism in the Siberian Husky, Shetland Sheepdog and the Chihuahua. There is also a ton of information online. I would also inform the breeder so they can maintain complete breeding program records. All the best. |
