Well, I typically only put them on her when I take her out as well, but she is so active and jumpy that it doesn't matter where we go or what we do, her tags (and everything else) are always flying!
I will usually take her on playdates, obviously to the groomer, and sometimes I will take her to Petco or Lowe's just to walk around inside. On top of the fact that the asphalt is too hot, she does have pink / black paw pads, so I know that taking her to a walking track isn't a great idea. I just like the idea of prolonging the looks and life of her tags and clips!
I am thinking that the clear nail polish idea (from the following post) would be most practical. If I tried to seal it in anything like a clear coat of paint, my luck would be that I would accidentally have it stick to paper or something and ruin it! Thank you for the suggestion. I'm guessing since there are many views and few responses that I am a weirdo and no one else thinks about sealing their tags. Ha ha! It's cool though. ^^ Thank you for your answers!
